The Dota2 'International', which is roughly the same as a Counter-Strike 'Major', was refused an 'elite' event status in Sweden, which is currently required to ensure that players can get into the country, with players only able to get a visa if they're taking part in a recognized elite sports event. Both the PGL Major for CSGO, and the Dota2 International are due to be held in Stockholm.
Originally, Valve had heard nothing negative about the plans, however a few weeks ago, the Swedish Sports Federation voted to not accept esports into that federation. Valve were then quick to contact the Swedish Esports Federation (SESF) as well as the Visit Stockholm organization, specifically asking them to classify The International as an elite sporting event, which was seemingly denied almost immediately. The fallout from this, if unresolved, will mean the players, broadcast talent, and any other necessary staff are likely to either be denied a visa, or for those who generally wouldn't require a visa to visit Sweden, may be at random denied or accepted by the varying airport staff. Valve even went as far as appealing to the Swedish Government, who were either unable to, or refused any help in the situation, on June 14th Valve once again contacted the Government, although they've so far it seems, not responded to that request.
If this goes unresolved, Valve have assured all involved they're still committed to finding a safe way of hosting the event, although it may now need to not be in Sweden. If this happens, it makes sense for Valve to also move the CSGO Major to the same location, as by then they'll be sure their new place is accepting of esports events, so there'd be no risks in reorganizing both events for the same location. The T1 qualifying events for the Dota 2 International are not affected, nor are the Regional Major Ranking events for Counter-Strike teams, so all teams in both games are able to rack up their points, and placements, ready for whatever comes in the future for the main events of the year.
