It was a near flawless run for Movistar Riders, losing just a single map throughout the event.
Movistar were able to smash through all of their opponents on the way to the finals, with only the final challenger, Outsiders, really offering any sort of meaningful obstacle to the path for them. However, despite all attempts by Outsiders, Spaniards of the Riders were able to take their first trophy in a LAN enviroment of the year.
The finals really were a cat and mouse affair, with Movistar making a close but well earnt recovery in the final minutes of the tournament to snatch victory from the claws of Outsiders on Vertigo after being 11-14 down to go on and win 16-14, giving the Riders a victory on their home turf infront of an audience of mostly Spanish spectators, which no doubt helped lift the spirits and motivation of the team throughout the event.
Movistar arrived at the finals by crashing head first through all of the Group B opponents they came across, which may have just been MIBR & HUMMER but they showed they were off to flying start and were here to get down to business, and were taking the event as seriously as possible. In the semis, Sprout arrived onto the field, but were sent back out almost as fast as they arrived. Movistar will go home with $50,000 plus an invite to EPL Season 17 Conference, where they can earn a ticket to the main Season 17 of Pro League which is due for early next year.
Both Movistar Riders & Outsiders are attending IEM Cologne's Play-In starting tomorrow (July 5th), So perhaps they'll come across each other a lot sooner than they'd both like, however with 16 teams attending and 8 spots at the main event, there's a good chance both of these teams can get through to the IEM Cologne's main event that is running from July 7th to the 17th.
