As another event passes us by, Extra Salt came out on top in the North American region, whereas in South America, Imperial was the top team.
Both teams now have an invite to IEM Summer 2021 in early June, where 14 others will be announced in due course to join them.
In the North, Extra Salt swept their opponent paiN, 3-0 in the best of 5 Grand Final. Despite the one-sided looking deal of a 3-0, paiN in each of those 3 matches put up a good fight, going 16-12 on Inferno, 16-13 on Train & 16-14 on Mirage. In all maps, a back-and-forth took place between the two teams as an intense fight took place with kills frequently being immediately traded and no one team ever having a meaningful advantage for any more than a few minutes. Extra Salt take home $35,000 as well as the invite to IEM Summer.
Switching over to the South American side of the competition, Imperial took Sharks 3-1. With Imperial getting a 1-0 headstart for coming into the final from the upper bracket, having not lost a match during this tournament to be pushed into the lower side of the double-elimination bracket. Imperial delivered a devastating first-half performance on Mirage, going 13-2 on the CT side, however for a period of time it looked as if Sharks were going to be able to make an equally impressive reply, before finally succumbing, earning 7 rounds against Imperials' 3, which was all they needed for the precious 16 after their 13 round launch. Sharks replied in kind on Train, however, winning 16-12 after a performance that could rarely be faulted. However in the final throes of the match, Imperial dominated to take the final map, Dust2, 16-7. Delivering Imperial both the win and the $16,000 prize.
Extra Salt will now get in more practice before IEM Summer, as they'll be shortly heading over to Europe to take part in the FunSpark ULTI 2020 Final, starting in mid-April, as well as taking part in the ESEA Premier Season 36 & DreamHack Masters Spring. Although Imperial's future calendar is looking a little open, with no future events currently announced other than the IEM Summer they just earned here, we're sure they'll be doing plenty of random 'friendly' matches with their fellow teams to ensure they're kept in top shape.
