Riot Games has launched LCS Game Changers, a week-long tournament where professional and amateur teams will scout some of the most promising young female players in the League of Legends game. According to a Riot Games statement issued earlier today, the objective of the LCS Game Changers player experience is to “create a more diverse and inclusive professional eSports ecosystem.”
Riot Games explained that LCS Game Changers is an event to
encourage women who are high ELO League players and seek to transfer them into
LoL amateur and professional leagues. Riot further added that they realised that
going through the process on their own may be intimidating, so Riot is thrilled
to sponsor this event that will serve as both a training and scouting ground
for women looking to break into the eSports industry.
Riot will choose ten of the most proficient female League
players to participate in LCS Game Changers, where they will practise with
coaches and staff members from various LCS clubs. Guest speakers will also talk
at the event to inform attendees about the next steps they must take to move
into a professional career.
Riot established a
Game
Changers tournament circuit for VALORANT earlier this year, and the
company's many events for the game's female scene have been well-received
throughout the year. However, unlike previous events, Riot will not be broadcasting
LCS Game Changers live. Riot added that since the program's primary purpose is
to level up an underserved set of League of Legends players, they will not be
broadcasting this event live.
Interested players may apply now for a position in the LCS
Game Changers, and participants will be chosen on September 3rd,
2021. On September 27th, the LCS Game Changers event will begin.
