After a fantastic first map and a loss on Split, GambitEsports beat Vision Strikers on the third map yesterday to go to the semifinalsof the VCT Masters Berlin. The match that VALORANT supporters thought to be anail-biter became a near-stomp after the opening map showcased a powerfulGambit. Ayaz “nAts” Akhmetshin, especially on Bind, had an amazing performance.
Gambit started off strong on the first map. nAts spent thewhole level chasing down and killing anything that moved, giving VisionStrikers very little time to respond. Only dropping two rounds against VisionStrikers in the first half of Bind, Gambit kept their momentum going.
The second half of Bind went by in the blink of an eye. Threerounds after the half, Gambit won their first map, 13-2, and prepared for theirsecond game, Split. Vision Strikers began to awaken when Lee "k1Ng"Seung-won was substituted for Kim "Lakia" Jong-min. Gambit didn't accomplish anything throughout their assault. VisionStrikers proceeded to shut them down before they could even get the spike down. The score was 8-4 at the end of the first half.
Thanks to Nikita “d3ffo” Sudakov's performance, the secondhalf of Split kicked off with a bang. After one of the attackers was dead, aplume of smoke billowed skyward. But it wasn't an issue for d3ffo, who was ableto grab another kill by shooting blindly into it. Kim “stax” Gu-taek began winning one-vs-two scenarios afterjust two rounds, just as Gambit seemed to be leading the round. Despite thefact that many expected Gambit to have a stronger defensive side, VisionStrikers won the second map 13-7.
On Icebox, Vision Strikers dominated map three, but the gamebegan to favour Gambit around the halfway mark of the first half. They wonseven consecutive rounds, but after halftime, Vision Strikers began to put up afight and take more rounds, slowing their momentum. Gambit regularly drove Vision Strikers out of position, allowing them to quickly take down players. Gambit won the map with score of13-8, sending Vision Strikers home and advancing to the semifinals.
In the semifinals tomorrow, Gambit will meet the winner of G2 Esports vs. KRÜ Esports.
