Yang "Tobi" Jin-mo and Choi "Hotba" Hong-joon will stay with the Philadelphia Fusion for the remainder of 2021 OWL season, the team confirmed on May 10th, 2021.
Before the start of the 2021 Overwatch League season, Hotba
and Tobi joined the Fusion to replace Daniel "FunnyAstro" Hathaway
and Gael "Poko" Gouzerch, who were unable to join the team in Korea
due to visa issues. The team was forced to sign Tobi and Hotba for the rest of
the season due to ongoing visa issues affecting FunnyAstro, Poko, and damage
player Niclas “sHockWave” Smidt.
During the May Melee qualifiers, the veteran duo helped the
Fusion go 4-0 before falling to the Shanghai Dragons in a classic six-map
series.Despite the defeat, the Fusion fielded a slew of questions from anxious
fans concerned about a lack of cohesion as a result of losing two players.
The two veterans have been in the Overwatch League since its inception and were able to quickly integrate into the new team. The Philadelphia Fusion defeated the Los Angeles Valiant and the Seoul Dynasty in week one. The newcomers to the team didn't miss a beat.
Tobi is a seasoned main support who lines up alongside Kim “Alarm” Kyung-bo, the team's powerhouse flex support.Tobi spent the first three seasons with the Seoul Dynasty before being released this offseason.
Hotba was a founding member of the Fusion and was a member
of the team's Grand Finals roster in season one. He's played for the Guangzhou
Charge and the New York Excelsior since then. For the last two years, his
offensive style has been hit or miss. During his time with the Charge, he was a
key part of the team's 15-13 record. However, his time with the Excelsior was
short-lived, and he was eventually benched in favour of Kim “Bianca” Dong-wook,
the team's new off-tank.
The Philadelphia Fusion will be back in action on May 22nd,
2021 against the New York Excelsior at 7 a.m. CT.
