Evil Geniuses has agreed to part ways with AD carry Matthew "Deftly" Chen after a frustrating end to the 2021 Spring Split. In his place, the League of Legends team will promote ADC Danny, a 17-year-old from the amateur squad, to the LCS.

Deftly joined EG's Academy team at the start of 2020 before being promoted to the main roster at the end of the year. A few new teammates joined him, including veteran top laner Impact and talented Korean help IgNar. The team also got off to a good start in the new year, reaching the semifinals of the 2021 LCS Lock In tournament.

However, EG's performance during the rest of the spring wasn't as impressive. The squad struggled to find consistency in the season, finishing sixth with a 10-8 record in the regular season. They ran into a TSM team primed for a deep run to the championship during the 2021 Mid-Season Showdown and were knocked out of contention in four games.

Deftly didn't have a poor performance during the break, but he didn't stand out either. According to Oracle's Elixir, the 23-year-old had the highest KDA of any LCS ADC during the 2021 Spring Split, but he also had the second-lowest kill participation percentage in his position.

Meanwhile, Danny, formerly Shiro, will make his LCS debut in the Summer Split of 2021, after spending the first half of the year competing in the amateur scene. He competed in the Upsurge Premier League, the Risen Champions League, and the 2021 Unified Grand Prix, among other smaller North American tournaments. EG Amateur's most recent tournament was at the 2021 LCS Proving Grounds, where he advanced to the fourth round before being eliminated by the 100 Thieves' Academy lineup.

When the 2021 LCS Summer Split starts on June 4th, 2021, you'll be able to see Danny in action with his new squad.
